Ever since Andy was a slim youth revelling in the local pubs of New Malden, his love for real ale has endured.
The hops, the barley, the malt and the pub in which it was served all merged to give an “I’m home’’ sensation.
Through the years (even as early as the late 1970’s) Andy experimented with making and creating his own beer at his various homes both in the US and UK (In hops there is home). He has attended beer festivals and drinking establishments in a number of countries with a genuine interest in the beer, the local influence and the process of making it.
Andy is a pub sat nav – “Turn right at the Wheatsheaf, left at the Blue Anchor, go straight on to the Rose & Crown, and it is on the left 200 yards, just past the Nags Head”.
Finally, with the support and help of his partner Michele, Andy is now realising a lifetime’s ambition to leave the insurance industry and start his own Micro Brewery. He is growing his own hops(Fuggles and Goldings) and every pint will (every pint has a point) have a waft of his Thames Side hops in it.
The malt for all of our beers comes from Warminster Maltings – Britain’s oldest working maltings. Warminster Malt is still made the traditional way, by hand, on floors, continuously and almost totally unchanged from the day the maltings were originally commissioned in 1855. This is in defiance of all the 20th century technology which has been used by many others in the malting industry since the 1960’s. The base malt for all our beers is Maris Otter Pale Malt, and this is supplemented by other types of malt according to the beer style.
We have a base of five different beer styles, but are planning to include seasonal specials from time to time. We are also planning to do fun things like enhancing the tasting process by offering beer tasting sessions with food that will best compliment the flavour of the recipe brewed
